CERME 8, WG 1: Argumentation and proof

Side-Antalya, Turkey
2012, February 6-10

The 8th Conference of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME 8) will take place in Manavgat-Side, Antalya, Turkey on February, 6-10. The Working session of Group 1 offers a stimulating forum for researchers interested in the field of argumentation and proof (argumentation and proof, including epistemological and historical issues, learning issues and classroom situations).

Leaders Viviane Durand-Guerrier (France)
Samuele Antonini (Italy) - Kirsten Pfeiffer (Ireland) – Gabriel Stylianides (United Kingdom)

Here, you can find the text of the all accepted papers.

You can also find the scientific program of the conference including the abstract of the plenary talks.

Proof in Mathematics Education -- Research, Learning and Teaching

David Reid and Christine Knipping

Sense Publisher, Rotterdam/Boston/Taipei, 2010

This book is an interesting and unusual contribution to the growing literature about proof. "Rather than compile another edited volume bringing together new empirical or theoretical analyses, or write a short chapter reviewing the literature on proof as part of a larger handbook, R&K have attempted to produce a lengthy, coherent synthesis of this entire subsection of the research literature. In a sense their book can be seen as an advanced level textbook, suitable for beginning doctoral or masters level students who may be writing dissertations related to proof." (Matthew Inglis in the Review of this book)

Here you have access to the two first chapters.
